Saint Brigid of Kildare or Brigid of Ireland (Bridget is the anglicized spelling of her name) is one of Ireland’s patron saints, along with Patrick and Columba. Irish hagiography makes her an early Irish Christian nun, abbess, and foundress of several monasteries of nuns, including that of Kildare in Ireland, which was famous and was revered.
She is the patron saint of babies, blacksmiths, boatmen, cattle, chicken farmers, children whose parents are not married, dairymaids, dairy workers, fugitives, infants, mariners, midwives, milkmaids, poultry raisers, printing presses, sailors, scholars, travelers, watermen, creativity scholars, and poets.
